We won! Shay Cleary Architects Winner of The Dezeen Awards 2024!


November has been a month of major milestones at Shay Cleary Architects, which has culminated in the second international design award won by the practice in less than two weeks.

 

Earlier this week we attended the Dezeen Awards Party hosted at Hackney Church London, and sponsored by Bentley, where Shay Cleary Architects were announced the winner of the Dezeen Awards 2024 for The Residences Sandford Lodge in the Housing Category. We faced incredible competition from 4,130 entries around the world and a shortlist of 4 amazing projects by some of the world's best design practices in Los Angeles, London, Aarhus and Basel.

 

This recognition is a significant achievement for our practice, and a testament to our team's skill and determination in creating the best places and spaces in the country.  Particular congratulations are due to key members of the practice, Senior Associate Mark Halpin and Project Architect Karl Tobin in the design and construction phases. It was fantastic to win this prestigious award from among the best design talent from around the world, and to show our expertise in the development of new low-rise, medium-density forms of housing, which answer real housing need with a highly sustainable, BREEAM Excellent development.


The Judges said  "This project is elegantly designed, achieving high sustainability standards while fitting seamlessly into its context as a modern interpretation of traditional brick houses. The courtyard transforms the typical use of space by prioritizing children’s play. This thoughtful approach enhances both community interaction and safety, making it a commendable example of contemporary residential design."
