Irish Museum of Modern Art 30th Anniversary

Today 25th May 2021 is the thirtieth anniversary of the opening of IMMA at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, a project of Shay Cleary Architects.

Our work there comprised the conversion of the east west and south wings of the historic building to provide new galleries along with a volumetric new entrance hall and monumental staircase placed centrally in the south wing. The courtyard which was previously grassed was given a new gravel finish and became the first ‘room ‘ of the museum.

The opening day was one of the main events in Dublin’s tenure as European Capital of Culture in 1991.
