In celebration of its recent nomination in the KPMG Ireland Irish Independent Property Industry Excellence Awards 2023, we recently took time to film a short feature with our long-time collaborator Jamie Hackett Photography, explaining some of the concepts behind the design of the scheme.
John Dobbin, Architect and Project Director of Shay Cleary Architects, uses the medium of hand-drawing to walk-through the key scheme concepts, in the development of a revolutionary low-rise, high-density form of housing, which produces more sustainable, more appropriate, and more viable housing in Ireland.
The Residences at Sandford Lodge, Dublin 6 comprise the first completed Low-Rise, High-Density, Residential Development in Ireland.
Building upon the practice's long term research projects into high quality, low-rise, high-density residential design, the scheme provides high amenity residential of generous size, with ample private open terraces and gardens, with superb access to sunlight and daylight.
The scheme achieves a very high density of approximately 100 units per hectare, comparable to taller apartment schemes, while never rising above 3 floors, fitting into the surrounding residential context, and providing a more cost effective solution when compared to more traditional development proposals.
